Head's Up

Our aim is simple: To broaden their horizons and find something at which they shine. We celebrate their achievements and successes at every possible opportunity so that children's enjoyment, confidence and self-esteem grows. Children are stretched by an academically demanding and exciting curriculum taught in innovative and creative ways.

Inside Scoop from a current parent

We chose Ashfold for so many reasons - the first one being the feeling of family and the nurturing nature of the school which struck us immediately. It is a close community of parents and staff and there is a strong ethos of sharing so we, the parents, can work with the school to get the best for our children. We find the Headmaster to be always very happy and willing to meet parents and talk any issues through with them and we really appreciate that transparency and availability - not to mention how supportive he and the staff are. The school itself is stunning and we love how the children can run around in the open and play freely, something we really value. The space of the grounds and the facilities are wonderful and our children love the recent addition of the Forest School to the curriculum which really helps them appreciate their surroundings outside the classroom. The range of activities offered outside the lessons is impressive - there is something for everyone and the trips the children go on, from the Pre-Prep Department upwards, are always well planned and a great addition to their classroom lessons. They look forward to them hugely. I see my children thriving at Ashfold; the class sizes allow them to flourish and develop both socially and academically, with good manners and consideration for others always encouraged and rewarded. Even from an early age they are given chances to show they can help and take some responsibility e.g. helping in the dining rooms at lunchtimes sitting on younger tables in Pre-Prep, and putting themselves forward to be Prefects higher up the school. They are also motivated to work towards academic and pastoral targets and we feel all of this is vital to start them off on as strong a grounding as possible for life after Prep School. We also love all the extra curricular opportunities on offer all the way up the school - our children get to have a go at so many things, all of which could help them grow in to more rounded people. In the pre-prep department they learn a variety of musical instruments, French and they have recently started providing karate as an extra activity. This variety continues as they move up the school, giving them a chance to focus on things they really love and develop their strengths. We also find the pastoral care to be excellent; the children know they can go to any member of staff should they need to, which is very reassuring as a parent. All of this really contributes to the one thing everyone wants for their children at school which is for them to be happy and our children are truly happy at Ashfold.

As Parents, We Love...

  • The family atmosphere and nurturing ethos of the school.
  • The staff and the pastoral care the children receive.
  • The broad range of the curriculum and extra-curricular activities, sports, singing and artistic inter-house competitions the children get to be a part of.

Our Children Love...

  • They love Forest School, they love the trips and they love the variety of lessons.
  • The staff - teaching and non-teaching. The lunchtimes are like a massive family meal! The kitchen and dining room staff know all the children well too and see them every day at all the various break times.
  • The grounds and the space they have to run around, climb trees and build dens during breaktimes.

School Highlights

Set in an impressive 30 acres on the Bucks/Oxon boarder Ashfold is a traditional school in the very best sense. Courtesy, respect and manners are important to us as we try to create an environment where children feel happy and safe. At the same time, we look to stretch and challenge the children academically, helping them to fulfil their potential and prepare them for their future ahead.

"Wood panelling, winding and creaking staircases and cobbled stable blocks bring Hogwarts to mind. Meanwhile, the rosy cheeked, windswept and slightly dishevelled children walking, running and skipping through the grassy play areas give an overall impression of an idyllic country school – worlds apart from the London tarmac many of its commuter families have left behind. ‘The children are like free-range chickens – able to explore, climb trees and have real freedom,’ said one parent.
