Head's Up

Learning is a messy, exploratory business and gains can only be made when you push the boundaries of your own uncertainty. At Badminton, there are no glass ceilings, no boundaries; only enormous freedom for girls to discover what they enjoy and what they excel at, not just academically, but also beyond the classroom.

Inside Scoop from a current parent

Badminton is a school which has a family nurturing atmosphere and ethos. Each child is treated as the individual they are and their skills are discovered and hugely encouraged. My daughter has been at Badminton for 12 years (since Reception) and from year 4 in the Junior School they discovered and encouraged her love of the sciences. They also discovered she has great debating skills and have encouraged that. I have to say that the support from the teachers during GCSEs was absolutely outstanding. In the senior school she is part of the Science Outreach Leadership Team which is a fantastic super curricular program the school runs. She's also a member of Model United Nations and Debating. As a result I now have a daughter in sixth form who is considering a career in either medicine or law. The school provide the very best in education which is proven by it's position in the national league tables year after year. The Head knows every single girl and their interests, and encourages a holistic approach to learning, which is to be applauded. She has an open door policy for the girls and parent and nothing seems to be too much trouble. Badminton is incredibly friendly with the girls all supporting each other. Relationships between boarders and day girls are hugely encouraged and my daughter has some great friends who are boarders (she's a day girl) - there is no "them and us". I did not feel the need to consider moving my daughter for sixth form - she loves Badminton and we do too. Throughout all these years I have felt that Badminton has far exceeded our expectations (and my expectations are high!) in terms of providing a second to none education and a supportive friendly atmosphere. Girls leave Badminton highly educated, motivated and independent, ready to face the world with a 'this girl can" attitude which will serve them well. I honestly would not change a thing.

As Parents, We Love...

  • I love the supportive friendly atmosphere and the fact that the girls are nurtured and encouraged in their passions, whatever that may be.
  • I love the quality of education which I feel is second to none. Girls are not hothoused - they are encouraged and as a result they develop a lifelong love of learning
  • I love the "this girl can" attitude the school has. The girls can do anything to which they set their mind - and they become independent motivated young ladies.

Our Children Love...

  • The possibilities available to her at Badminton - she loves participating in the Science Outreach program, given her passion for the sciences.
  • The responsibilities given - from Student Ambassador to Peer Mentor
  • The excellent communication between girls and staff and the fact that a staff member will go well above and beyond to help in any way possible

School Highlights

Badminton is a vibrant, thriving and exciting day and boarding school for girls aged 3 – 18. We embrace and respect our 160 year heritage but pride ourselves on being progressive in an increasingly global society.

We push the boundaries on putting learning into action. Our students get to know more than a thin veneer of facts, they get to understand the how and why and, most importantly, if they enjoy engaging with their objects in a real world sense. Our focus is on nurturing the girls’ natural curiosity and fuelling their passion for learning. As a result, the School continues to hold a nationally outstanding academic record, affording us one of the top spots on the league tables. However, we find more pride in the individual successes of the girls; your daughter will be fully supported in whatever her talents or interests may be.

We take full advantage of being situated in such an exciting, cosmopolitan city. Boasting two of the largest universities in the country, Bristol is well known for learning and academic achievement and Badminton girls benefit from attending university lectures and taking part in industry-run competitions, as well as participating in events run by the local business community for young people.

What is special about Badminton? It is impossible to narrow it down to one thing but our unwavering sense of community is something that really needs to be experienced to be believed. We’re fortunate that the size of our campus and community gives an unparalleled homely feel to the School in which every girl is known by all. With over 35 nationalities represented within our close-knit community, girls develop an understanding of the viewpoints of others and an appreciation of the School’s international outlook. Our activity based approach means that from the moment you walk through Badminton’s gates, you are engulfed in its busy, buzzy and friendly atmosphere on campus. Visit us and discover Badminton for yourself.
