Head's Up

“Everyone has a talent. Whatever creative or academic outlet makes a child tick, Cottesmore finds and nurtures it. Endeavour and fun are the most important elements of intellectual life at Cottesmore. Success follows this explosion of discovery and purposefulness.” Tom Rogerson, Headmaster

Inside Scoop from a current parent

Cottesmore is a hidden gem and I’m loathe to publicise it too much, as us Cottesmore parents feel like we are part of a secret club! The warm, happy, family atmosphere adds to the uniqueness of this school; it is understated, kind and lets the brilliant academic results do the talking.

Cottesmore encourages children to be themselves and develops them into the best version of themselves they can be. This in turn builds confidence in an environment that is nurturing and yet somehow, cleverly, also manages to build and encourage resilience.

The school supports the children's creativity and their ideas - giving them the confidence to take these ideas to the teachers and the gumption to turn these into reality.

For other London families like us, I cannot recommend this gem enough ... What more could you ask for? Oh yes, the match teas, filled with smiling, happy children, are legendary and I highly recommend the mini chocolate eclairs!!!

As Parents, We Love...

  • The family atmosphere- the Headmaster and his wife live at the school with their family. There are about 15 dogs running around the school at any one point. This, along with the happy chatter of children makes the school buzz with family atmosphere.
  • The happy children- As a parent, there is nothing better than seeing your child thrive and have a smile permanently attached to their face whilst at school. Each child is respected and admired for their own idiosyncratic qualities.
  • The excellent academic results- the results speak for themselves and are comparable with top London day schools. The Cottesmore mentality of bringing out the best in each child has enabled my children to reach their true academic potential.

Our Children Love...

  • Friendships- the friendships my children have built at Cottesmore are truly wonderful. Boarding at the school has allowed my son to develop and nurture his friendships and they are have blossomed.
  • The exciting lessons- it makes my heart sing to hear my children chat happily about their lessons and how much they love them. “Explosion, Roald Dahl, Bunsen burner, rocket and Sopwith Camel“ are just a few of the things I’ve heard in one sentence!
  • The Food- the Match teas are legendary, and the food is homemade and healthy (the children have several salads to choose from for lunch and supper). Most importantly, there’s always lots of it so the children are well fed and happy!

School Highlights

Cottesmore School won the Times Educational Supplement ‘Boarding School of the Year Award 2019’ at the Tes Independent School Awards.

Cottesmore is an award-winning academic boarding Prep school for girls and boys set in the glorious, verdant countryside of West Sussex, less than an hour from London. Cottesmore has been providing excellent preparation for senior boarding schools since 1894 and has long term connections with schools which share Cottesmore’s belief in a nurturing, rounded and dynamic academic education - schools like Eton, Harrow, Downe House and Benenden.

Cottesmore achieves excellent academic results. The strength of Cottesmore’s academic programme lies within its breadth. There are 21 different curriculum subjects taught: sports and the arts are strong. Through this rich variety of intellectual and practical experience, each girl and boy finds her or his particular strength and this in turn lifts their academic potential.

Cottesmore was awarded the Crystal Award 2019 for academic results by 'Best Schools' and was also a finalist for 'Independent School of the Year' 2019 at the Tes Independent School Awards.
