Head's Up

“The warmth and inclusiveness of our family atmosphere comes from a boarding school which is large enough for diverse opportunities and small enough for everyone to be known, supported and encouraged. Our guiding values and principles are summarised in four words: service, relationships, leadership and excellence.”

Inside Scoop from a current parent

We chose Cranleigh School for several reasons. We wanted a co-educational school because we have three boys so one of the things we wanted them to learn was to live with girls. We also wanted a school with around 700 students rather than 1,400 as we felt this would be a more family and friendly environment for them. Finally we needed a school that could accommodate all our boys because it was important to us to keep the family together; Cranleigh has a sibling policy and also such a varied set of facilities that we knew there would be something for each of our children.

What makes Cranleigh special? The family feel and approachability of everyone you meet from the Headmaster to the Common Room, everyone is only a phone call away. The staff are genuinely interested in my children and care about their education and development. My children are happy, confident and independent young people. Cranleigh encourages them to try their very best, be it in the classroom or on the sports fields and to try everything on offer and experiment with new things. Academically my children are flourishing and are learning so much more with the School’s encouragement.

In these fast moving days, growing up seems to be very complicated, I really feel Cranleigh is somewhere that my children can do this as safely as possible.

School Highlights

*Shortlisted for Boarding School of the Year in the TES Independent School Awards 2019*

“The School is highly successful in meeting its aim of enabling young people to flourish and lead busy and fulfilled lives” – ISI

In 2017-18 we enjoyed the most successful results in our 150-year history, both academically and across an impressive range of sports, arts and cultural activities. Such broad success is even more remarkable in view of the School’s size (628 pupils aged 13 to 18) and entry criteria (based on a holistic review rather than narrow academic selection, and with a robust sibling priority). We firmly believe that this success, and the evident happiness and enjoyment of our pupils, is firmly grounded in our dedicated boarding environment. The real magic of Cranleigh comes not from the stellar performance but the teamwork and community spirit that enables them and for each child that succeeds or betters expectations at whatever level.
