Head's Up

“Only an hour from London, ambitious and caring, small enough to know everybody yet big enough to stretch them, Dover College has been recognised by the TES Awards as one of the finest schools in the country. An extraordinary curriculum and extra-curriculuar activities give children the very best start in life. Think differently!”
Gareth Doodes

Inside Scoop from a current parent

As parents we had very strong views about a school providing not only robust and high academic standards, but also high standards regarding supporting the ongoing character-building of our son. Dover College has certainly been able to deliver this in a very integrated and consistent way!
Our son is an entirely different boy academically, (though not stressed by the higher expections) but has also continued to flourish in confidence, leadership and in sports.
In over three years, we have seldom had issues for concern, however, on the odd occasion, we have been met with compassion and a 'can do' attitude. On a very early occasion, within ten minutes of me raising a worry, we had the headteacher himself on the phone! We were so glad for this experience, as although we felt a bit embarrassed by the level of response, it was hugely reassuring in knowing that he was happy to be involved where he needed to.
Having said that, we have been happy with every level of staff intervention, so we trust the heads of subjects or houses too.
I suppose the thing that is very hard to put down in writing, is the general feel of the school - you'd have to come and experience it for yourself! The children are so neat and well behaved, yet there is a 'family' feel to the whole environment. It's big enough for my son to have many friends, and mix with a diverse range of people, yet small enough for him to feel known and understood as an individual.
I have also never known such a great bunch of children and parents within his year group. I have made friends, he's always supported and encouraged (by his friends, AND their parents), with very few upsets or fractures in relationships. These children teach us how to love and accept all types of cultures, personalities and abilities.
I'm aware this review is sounding biased. What could I say that I don't like? Although the food is absolutely amazing, sometimes the coffee is served cold. Honestly, that's my gripe!

As Parents, We Love...

  • The 'feel' of it! All these smart children, with happy faces, who are happy to be at the school they're in!
  • The fact my son is getting a high quality private education in a nurturing and caring school.
  • The fact I feel I can go directly to the Headmaster if I ever needed to - I don't really need to, but it's nice to know!

Our Children Love...

  • His friends!
  • The diverse range of subjects and sports, so he can try out things and decide what he loves most.
  • The food!
